Early College Policies

General Policies for Prospective Students and Parents

Flexible Scheduling Opportunities

  • Dual enrollment courses may be taken at any of the Coastal Alabama Community College campuses, online, or hybrid.
  • Academic and technical courses are offered at many local high schools or tech centers. Programs vary by location, please contact your school about available courses.
  • Summer Dual Enrollment: College credit courses taken during the summer may not be considered for high school credit.  Please see your high school counselor to know if dual enrollment is allowed by your school during the summer terms.

Student Eligibility

For the Dual Enrollment program, students must have:

  • Completed the 9th grade
  • Have a 2.5 unweighted GPA for academic courses or a 2.0 unweighted GPA for technical programs
  • Be in good standing and on track to graduate high school on time
  • Attend a school that is a Coastal Alabama partner school or homeschool

For the Accelerated program, students must have:

  • Completed the 10th grade
  • Have a 3.0 unweighted GPA

Eligible Courses

Students may take only the designated courses that the partnering School Systems and Coastal Alabama Community College agree upon.  Students may not audit courses under the terms of this policy. For a list of courses offered, please contact the dual enrollment counselor at your high school or view the most current Course Schedule.

Students must meet eligibility requirements for courses based on placement guidelines set forth by the college.

Cost

Scholarship funds are available each term!  Most courses are covered, just use the “Meet Your Career Coach” link on the right to connect with a Career Coach to find out what you may be eligible for!

If students wish to pay for tuition and fees with PACT, it is their responsibility to fill out the PACT Request Form and turn it into the Coastal Alabama Business Office. Students paying with PACT must consider the processing time and ensure they submit paperwork early enough to allow for processing.  They must stay in contact with the Coastal Alabama Business Office through their college email.

ADA

ACCS institutions must comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which prohibit discrimination against individuals with disabilities who are otherwise qualified for ACCS programs and services. Students that submit documentation of qualifying disabilities and meet the prerequisites of ACCS courses will be provided reasonable accommodations that allow equal access. Colleges are not required to provide equivalent accommodations as the secondary educational entity. Modification of curriculum is not permitted.

Transferring Credits

Please refer to the Alabama Transfers program and site for information regarding the Alabama state law that guarantees transferability of all academic credits for two-year college students.

In order to have college credits transferred to another college, students must fill out and submit a Transcript Release Form. 

Students may view/print their unofficial transcript on OneACCS at any time.

College Class Withdrawal

Students in the dual enrollment program must have permission from their high school before they may withdraw from a college class as it could affect their high school graduation. The last day to withdraw for classes can be found on the current college calendar. 

Accelerated students may withdraw at any time without high school permission.

To withdraw, all students must complete the Withdrawal Form by the last day to withdraw for any term according to the college calendar.

Continuing Eligibility

Students, dual or accelerated, who withdraw from courses or fail to meet minimum grade requirements will be ineligible for the program for a minimum of one term. The ineligible term may not be summer; it must be Fall or Spring term.

To re-enroll, the student must complete a new online application and meet program requirements. 

Students who must withdraw due to extenuating circumstances outside of their control may be eligible for a waiver for the term of ineligibility.

Continuing at Coastal Alabama After High School

If you are planning to continue your education at Coastal Alabama Community College after you graduate high school:

  • Seniors must submit a new application as a First Time College Student.  “Fast Track” applications are available and will be sent to all participating 12th graders.
  • Students may view their unofficial and order official transcripts through their OneACCS portal.
  • Official transcripts may also be requested from the Registrar’s office: Student Records and Transcripts

College Policies

All Dual Enrollment Students are expected to adhere to college policies, procedures, and schedules. They can be found in the most current edition of the Catalog and Student Handbook.
