Course Overview:
The purpose of this class is to introduce students to the field of industrial maintenance and electrical engineering technology. Students will be introduced to the types of systems that they would be expected to maintain if they choose a career in this field, including high and low voltage AC and DC electrical systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, instrument control loops, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, mechanical drive systems, pumps, motors and valves. Industrial maintenance and electrical engineering technology is a field that prepares students to work in the maintenance and operation of industrial and commercial machinery. Students learn how to install, maintain, and repair electrical and industrial systems, including high and low voltage systems, motor controls, PLCs, and fluids. Some of the duties of an industrial maintenance mechanic include: . Performing preventive maintenance on equipment and mechanical systems . Troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. . Installing new equipment. Industrial maintenance is important because a planned maintenance schedule helps ensure that equipment, parts, and machines are reliable, which can help avoid excessive downtime and inefficiency.
