Mississippi State University to Accept CACC Career Tech Transfer Credits

Coastal Alabama Community College and Mississippi State University have struck a deal allowing for all 60 hours a student earns in Career Technical studies to be applied toward MSU’s Bachelor of Applied Science degree.
The partnership is the first of its kind for the college, and has real-world applications for students trying to balance full-time jobs and their goals for advancement. One of the key benefits to the program, according to the Director of the Career Technical Division, is that the Bachelor of Applied Science curriculum is entirely available online.
“This way, someone working at a paper mill, chemical plant or steel mill can actually finish their bachelor's degree while they're still working,” said Scott Dees.
Prior to the agreement with Mississippi State, students who finished their Career Tech pathways had only terminal degrees, which means there was no framework in place for them to continue their education in that chosen field at a four-year school.
“Students can go into communication, broadcasting, criminology, history, psychology, event hospitality, healthcare or general business, just to name a few,” he said. And that would lead them straight into MSU’s curriculum.
Of the 60 credit hours a student must complete at Coastal Alabama Community College, 45 must be technical, with the additional 15 being general education. They would then take 30 hours of upper-level emphasis classes through MSU online in one of the following subjects:
- Communication
- Counselor Education
- Criminology
- Cybersecurity
- Educational Psychology
- General Business
- General Technology
- Geosciences
- Health Promotion
- History
- Kinesiology
- Manufacturing Fundamentals
- Operations Management Engineering (OME)
- Psychology
- Public Management
- Social Work
- Sociology
- Veterans’ Certificate
