Bay Minette Community Supports Coastal Alabama Food and Toy Drive During Nutcracker Performance

Dec 22nd, 2025 Featured

Coastal Alabama Community College’s Bay Minette Campus saw strong community support for its annual Food and Toy Drive through a special collaboration with the Mobile Ballet on Saturday, December 6, at the L.D. Owens Performing Arts Center.

As the Mobile Ballet presented “The Nutcracker Suite”, members of the audience were encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to benefit Coastal Alabama’s Food and Toy Drive, which officially concluded on December 15. The event helped provide essential resources for local families in need during the holiday season.

The drive was coordinated with support from Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, whose members were in attendance to assist with collecting donations. By combining a well-known performance with a service-focused goal, the event highlighted Coastal Alabama’s commitment to both community engagement and student leadership.

“We are appreciative of the audience for bringing the items to add to our Food and Toy Drive,” said Charles Lake, advisor to the Pi Psi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. “We were able to raise over 1,500 food items for local families, and the additional items from the audience of The Nutcracker Suite was a huge help.”

The collaboration between the Mobile Ballet, Phi Theta Kappa, and Coastal Alabama Community College displayed the importance of partnerships in addressing local needs. By leveraging a well-attended performance, the college was able to expand the reach and impact of the Food and Toy Drive while fostering goodwill across the Bay Minette community.
