Sep 22nd, 2026 Featured

Colleagues from Coastal Alabama Community College and the University of Mobile gathered on Coastal Alabama's Bay Minette Campus on September 22, 2026, to celebrate a new partnership that establishesseamless transfer pathways for students pursuing careers in education. The agreement creates opportunities for Coastal Alabama students to continue their academic journey at the University of Mobile while preparing for careers as professional educators. According to Dr. Ashley Milner, Dean of the School of Education at the University of Mobile, "The University of Mobile is proud to partner with Coastal Alabama Community College, offering students a seamless pathway to a four-year degree."

The transfer pathways were developed through the collaborative efforts of Dr. Ashley Milner; Dr. Carolyn Corliss, Associate Dean of Accreditation and Administration and Professor of Education at the University of Mobile; and Dr. Mary Beth Lancaster, Dean of Academic Instruction at Coastal Alabama Community College. The agreement facilitates the transfer of general studies and child development coursework into the University of Mobile's Early Childhood/Elementary Education, Child and Social Development, and Collaborative K-6 Special Education degree programs, providing students with a clear and structured route to teacher preparation and certification. As noted by Dr. Milner, "This articulation agreement ensures a smooth transition directly into UM's undergraduate teacher education programs."

The partnership is designed to support both workforce readiness and long-term educational attainment. According to Dr. Lancaster, "Coastal Alabama's curriculum is intentionally designed to support both immediate career entry and long-term educational goals. Students may earn a short-term certificate in Child Development that qualifies them for employment in schools, childcare centers, and daycare programs while also earning transferable college credit that applies toward an associate’s degree and then a bachelor's degree in education. This dual-purpose pathway allows students to enter the workforce quickly, gain valuable experience, and continue progressing toward becoming certified teachers. The partnership between Coastal Alabama and the University of Mobile strengthens this pathway for students."
