Coastal Alabama to Host Mass Casualty Incident Training Exercise in Fairhope

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Coastal Alabama Community College will host a large-scale Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) training exercise on Monday, July 13, at the Fairhope campus. The event will bring together nursing and EMS students, faculty, first responders, and emergency management professionals for a realistic disaster response training experience. 

The exercise will begin with setup activities at 9 a.m., followed by the training scenario from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Coastal Alabama's Fairhope Campus. Community members should expect a noticeable emergency personnel presence throughout the day, and a portion of School Street will be temporarily closed during the exercise. 

The training will simulate an active shooter incident and may include the sounds of gunfire, emergency vehicles, and participants carrying visible weapons. College officials emphasize that this is only a training exercise and that there is no actual emergency. Members of the public are asked not to call 911 regarding activity associated with the drill. 

The exercise will involve students and faculty from Coastal Alabama's nursing and EMS programs, simulation faculty and staff, and law enforcement personnel. Participating agencies include the Baldwin Mutual Special Response Team, Fairhope Police Department, Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency, MedStar EMS, and AirCare. 

Mass casualty incident training provides students and first responders with opportunities to strengthen communication, teamwork, and emergency response skills in a realistic environment. Through partnerships with local emergency services and healthcare organizations, Coastal Alabama continues to provide hands-on training experiences that prepare students for real-world situations while supporting regional public safety efforts. 

The City of Fairhope will provide lunch for participants during the event.
