It’s Never Too Late: Emmanuelle Lee’s Path to Graduation

For Emmanuelle Lee, known to many as Emma, her journey to Coastal Alabama Community College has been anything but traditional. It is a story shaped by faith, family, and the courage to begin again.
Originally from a small town in Normandy, France, Emma first came to the United States as a young adult with plans to improve her English before returning home to continue her studies. Life, however, had other plans. During her time in the United States, she met a young man from Mississippi who quickly took her heart. The two built a life together, raising three children and creating a home far from where her journey began.
Over the years, Emma devoted herself to her family while also building a meaningful career from home. Through her translation business, she has helped families adopt children from French-speaking countries, a role she describes as deeply rewarding.
Her passion for learning never left her, but for a long time, she believed her opportunity to return to school had passed.
“For a long time, graduation was a word I associated only with my children, never with myself,” she shared.
In 2025, Emma decided to take a step she once thought was out of reach. After overcoming initial doubts, she enrolled at Coastal Alabama Community College and quickly found her place.
What began as a leap of faith soon turned into a calling.
Emma enrolled in the phlebotomy program and graduated in August 2025. After completing her internship in a hospital setting, she discovered a passion for the medical field and began working toward her next goal. She is currently completing prerequisites with plans to enter the Registered Nursing program.
Along the way, Emma has balanced coursework, family life, and even classes alongside her youngest son, who is enrolled at Coastal through dual enrollment.
With each class, her confidence has grown.
“Little by little, with every class, every assignment, every exam, I began to prove to myself that I am capable,” she said.
Now, as she continues her journey, Emma reflects on what this experience has meant to her.
“Coastal Alabama Community College has given me something I didn’t even realize I was missing, the confidence to believe in myself again.”
For Emma, this chapter is about more than education. It is about growth, resilience, and embracing new opportunities.
“Life is full of surprises,” she said. “I am so grateful for this new chapter and everything that lies ahead.”
