St. Baldrick's / Hair Donation event.
The Alpha Eta Lambda (Brewton/Atmore) chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is hosting a children's cancer/hair donation event on the Brewton Campus on Monday, September 12th. We will have T-shirts for donors. Students can "shave" their heads at the event to raise awareness for St. Baldricks or encourage donation. Dr Willis will personally donate $25 per student with shoulder-length hair or longer who shaves their head. -> The reason "shave" is in quotes is that St. Baldrick does not permit razors - we can only use clippers on the lowest setting. Students can donate 8 inches of hair in a pony tail to Children with Hair Loss. Children With Hair Loss will accept chemically treated hair and gray hair. They are one of the organizations St. Baldrick's recommends. Also, while they would love to have up to 12 inches of hair, they only require 8 inches. Many organizations require 10 inches, so it might encourage those with long hair to donate. We will have PTK members ask for pledges and volunteers. The forms for Children with Hair loss are online and we just have to bag the hair and send it in with the form. I think this can be a really fun event to start the term and get new students interested in being on campus. Also, I will participate and shave my head. There.
