Course Overview:

This workshop will teach you the tools for creating characters and writing compelling stories. The scope of this course is to help you craft your writing abilities for film and television so that you can make the movies you want to see! With this course you can expect to gain real world insight into how writing has evolved throughout the history of cinema and how we can catch the next wave of its evolution. The first day of the workshop will cover the tools of writing, discuss how writing influences various genres and give you the formulas for creating stories. On the second day of the class, workshop attendees can take the scenes they created and shoot a short scene with their ideas/script. After the workshop ends, attendees will receive a copy of their scene that they get to keep!

Day 1: Writing Tools, The Basis of Writing, The Evolution of Writing into Now

Day 2: Scene study, Performance, Character creation

The class will be taught by Andrew Wilson Williams, an independent filmmaker and professional actor. A longtime veteran of the film industry, Andrew has worked on countless film crews and appeared in a myriad of feature films and on shows like Stranger Things, Swamp Murders and more. Andrew is a graduate of the 3D Animation/Visual FX program at Coastal Alabama Community College and of the Journalism/Creative Media program at The University of Alabama. Andrew has also worked at the intersection of tech/film, helping Meta develop their data pipeline for Generative Media using AI Language Models.
