The General Education Diploma Program

The Coastal Alabama General Education Diploma (GED) program allows individuals to study and take the GED Ready Practice Tests and Real GED Tests in all four subject areas at NO COST!

These areas include:

  • Reasoning through Language Arts
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • Math

Classes are available in-person or hybrid on all Adult Education campuses. Classes are open enrollment, meaning you may come by any time to enroll!

What you need to bring to enroll:

  • Coming from Public School:
    • 16 years old
      • Certificate of Exemption Form [Download Form]
      • Parent Permission Form [Download Form]
      • Proof of Alabama Residency, can include:
        • Alabama ID card, driver’s license, or permit
        • Student photo ID from a private or public Alabama High School, college, or university
        • Employee photo ID from any level of government within the state of Alabama
    • 17 years old:
      • Parent Permission Form [Download Form]
      • Proof of Alabama Residency, can include:
        • Alabama ID card, driver’s license, or permit
        • Student photo ID from a private or public Alabama High School, college, or university
        • Employee photo ID from any level of government within the state of Alabama
    • 18+ years old: No paperwork needed.
  • Coming from Private or Homeschool
    • 16/17 years old:
      • Homeschool Withdrawal Form [Download Form]
    • 18+ years old: No paperwork needed.

*Students who complete their GED through Coastal Alabama’s Adult Education Program qualify for a scholarship for ONE FREE CLASS at Coastal Alabama Community College.

The High School Diploma Option Program

The High School Diploma Option (HSO) Program allows individuals to attend Adult Education classes and earn their remaining High School Credits needed to graduate from their last Alabama Public High School.

Qualifications to participate in HSDO:

  • Student’s last school must be an Alabama Public High School. 
  • Student is at least 19 years of age or older (you may begin working toward your HSO prior to this but cannot enroll until 19). 
  • Student left school with at least 10 credits to your name.

What you need to bring to enroll:

  • HSDO Transcript Release Form [Download Form]
    • Provide this to the High School to have your transcripts released to Coastal Alabama.
  • HSDO Transcript Audit Form [Download Form]
    • Completed by the High School and sent from the High School to Coastal Alabama Adult Education program.
  • A copy of your High School Transcript and/or Alabama High School Graduation Exam Results.
    • Sent with your HSDO Transcript Audit Form directly from the High School.

*Students who complete their HSO through Coastal Alabama’s Adult Education Program will receive their Official High School Diploma from their last Alabama Public High School, paid for by the Adult Education Program.
